Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is a collection of works by J.R.R. Tolkien, published in 1977, a few years after his death. It is in essence a prequel to his more famous Middle-Earth adventures. It is an account of the Elder Days, set back in the First Age. This is a time when Morgoth, the first of the Dark Lords, dwells in Middle-Earth and the Elves start a war in order to get back the Silmarils, which are jewels that contain the pure light of Valinor. Several other short works included are Ainulindale, a Creation myth and Valaquenta, where the power of the gods is explained. Akallabeth tells of the downfall of the island kingdom called Numenor, which occurred at the end of the Second Age. Finally, Of the Rings of Power, set in the Third Age, tells of the great events as narrated in 'The Lord of the Rings'.
This edition has retained the original cover design by Tolkien.
