He had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish...

This is a short, simple tale of a fisherman who goes out to sea alone in search of a giant fish. Out in the gulf stream off havana, the old man struggles against solitude and the elements to land his catch. It is a poetic book, perfectly describing the sea, sky and feelings of a man adrift against nature's savage beauty.

If you haven't read Hemingway, this book would be the ideal starting point.
